Terminal Operations Manager

Position Summary

The Terminal Operations Manager oversees the day-to-day operations of the riverport terminal, ensuring the efficient, safe, and cost-effective handling of cargo via river, road or rail. This role requires strong leadership, operational planning, and knowledge of maritime logistics to optimize throughput, maintain compliance with regulatory requirements, and deliver exceptional customer service.


Key Responsibilities

Operational Management

  • Direct and coordinate terminal operations including cargo loading/unloading, cargo handling, and storage of bulk and breakbulk products.
  • Develop daily and weekly work plans to maximize efficiency and reduce vessel turnaround time.
  • Ensure compliance with maritime, environmental, and safety regulations.
  • Monitor and maintain terminal equipment, ensuring timely inspections, repairs, and preventative maintenance.
  • River and rail logistics.

Personnel Leadership

  • Supervise, train, and evaluate terminal staff.
  • Promote a safety-first culture and enforce safety policies and procedures.
  • Schedule labor in coordination with operational needs.

Customer & Stakeholder Relations

  • Address and resolve operational challenges to maintain customer satisfaction.
  • Coordinate with customs, Coast Guard, and other regulatory agencies as needed.

Planning & Reporting

  • Develop and manage annual operational budgets.
  • Prepare operational performance reports and identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Participate in strategic planning to support port growth, infrastructure upgrades, and technology adoption.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Operations, Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field preferred; equivalent work experience accepted.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in port, terminal, or maritime operations management.
  • Strong knowledge of cargo handling equipment, maritime regulations, and OSHA safety standards.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage diverse teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in port management software, Microsoft Office Suite, and operational reporting tools.

Work Environment

  • Combination of office and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to walk on uneven surfaces, climb ladders, and be in proximity to moving machinery and heavy equipment.
