Owensboro Riverport laborers Rick Isbell, left, and Derrik Berkley carefully position a 39,000 pound steel coil utilizing a "C" clamp onto a flatbed trailer Tuesday afternoon at the Riverport's dock. Each barge load contains approximately 70 steel coils ranging in weight from 21,000 to 53,000 pounds. This steel rebar will be utilized for construction projects throughout the eastern United States. Owensboro Riverport has the capability to handle both 20’ & 40’ rebar lengths. Sorting by physical size and grade is another area of expertise for port personnel.

Having originally arrived in New Orleans, these Lash Barges were pushed up the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers and are being discharged of their aluminum cargo at the docks of Owensboro Riverport. Each Lash Barge holds approximately 400 Short Tons of material.
